Week 13
Your body: Your morning sickness should be starting to subside, which is good news for you! Also, the chance of having a miscarriage has decreased. This means that you are really having a baby! The high risk period is over so you can relax more now. Now is the time that you can start making announcements, that is, if you haven’t already. You should also be going to see the doctor again. There are several prenatal tests that need to be administered during your second trimester. They are: amniocentesis, maternal serum screening AFP, and an ultrasound. Also during this time you should make sure that you do not handle raw meat or change your cat’s litter box, if you have one. These contain toxoplasmosis, which can cause birth defects. If you do have to handle them, make sure to wash your hands very well afterward.

Baby: Your baby’s neck is fully formed and functional. He can now turn his head from side to side and measures about 3 inches. His heartbeat is beating between 120 and 160 beats per minute which is much faster than mommy’s.
